Widow’s oil

Reading 2 Kings 4: how many times in the Bible is someone asked to provide empty containers, jars of water, a meal … The temptation often must have been to think that’ll be enough, I can’t bother the neighbours looking for more containers … The point is very carefully made, the oil kept coming until there were no containers.

This isn’t a prosperity gospel thing, note the recipients simply obeyed with no expectation of what was to come. They just did what they were told because it was the right thing to do. But if they’d skimped, they would have been kicking themselves.

I guess God always blesses us in proportion to how much we give of ourselves, etc. to him. We need to be extravagant with our lives, not holding things in reserve.
